Though her approach was initially met with skepticism in the medical community, in the last ten years a growing body of scientific literature validates the proactive, health-enhancing approach to fertility difficulties that Julia Indichova discovered through her own research and through working with others after her diagnosis in 1992.
An important note about studies:
Given our culture's distrust of data derived from other than institutionally sanctioned research, our reflection in the mirror will soon fail to be adequate proof of our existence. Not without a validation of a double blind study. Studies and statistics might be useful resources, but they don't replace the intelligence of heart. At the center of the FH approach is learning how to feel, think and choose for ourselves; viewing our journey as a most exciting research project, in which we are the lab, the subject of the experiment and the head of the project. Some of you might have seen the NYT article (9/4/07) on the "breakthrough" study of 16 women published in the journal Fertility and Sterility, that's "beginning to win over critics of the theories that persistent stress related to behavior or personality alters brain signals affecting fertility." If I had waited for this study to tell me that my "infertility" was a call for radical body-and-soul-overhaul, my daughter might not be here today.
In the November 2007 issue of National Geographic, a Rockefeller University biologist speaks of his discovery that humans can generate new neurons to replace lost brain cells. Something a century of neuroscience dogma declared impossible. His finding evolved from observing how adult canaries learn new songs. Pretty amazing what you can learn by paying attention. In 1993, when I first began reading newsletters of consumer advocacy groups,
most articles claimed no relationship between diet, lifestyle, emotional difficulties and fertility. Much has changed in the last fifteen years.
So, we post studies on the site with the hope is that you take note of what is useful, but above all engage in the solid science of direct observation.
