After a heroic journey, a Fertile Heart baby.

In the last round of Visionaries Circles (we convene every other week) two of the couples who were new to the work, conceived spontaneously after several years of disappointments.

Sometimes, crossing the bridge to “possibility” takes just a few weeks. More often it’s longer than that.

And in rare cases, as in the journey of Eva and Nick, the heroic couple in the video, people keep coming back to our circle in spite of seemingly unworkable obstacles.

Nick, a lecturer in the Department of French and Italian at Princeton, one of the most humble, gentle Dads I ever got to meet, is a cancer survivor. Eva, a Jungian psychoanalyst and one of the most sensitive, determined Moms I’ve had the privilege to work with, has wrestled with multiple diagnoses.

Throughout the years I’ve known them, Nick and Eva kept showing up for themselves and each other, kept engaging in our Visionaries Circles and in our private sessions, even when so much of the time hope was in short supply.

Although their baby boy was conceived with the help of technology, similarly to other Fertile Heart parents utilizing assisted reproduction, as Nick put it: “I have no doubt that it was Fertile Heart that made a difference in our journey.”

Their story is important in clearing up the common misunderstanding that the Fertile Heart work is only helpful for couples moving toward spontaneous conception. Which is far from the truth. The work is the same no matter what road to parenting we choose.
