Fermentation for Fertility

By on October 20, 2021

By now you probably know that your gut health aka your micro-biome, is closely related to your fertility and your health. One of the ways to seed your gut with good bacteria is by including delicious fermented foods in your diet. That’s our FertileHeart chef and my darlingest husband in that video doing what he loves to do.

Fermented Cabbage, Carrots & Beets

This recipe is one of my favorites and is still evolving, trying different spices and carrot beet, cabbage ratios.

Ingredients

2 lbs. of shredded cabbage

½ lbs. shredded carrots

½ lbs. shredded beets

(You can change the ratio of the above 3 items as long it equals 3 pounds in total.)

5 ½ tsps salt

¼ tsp cayenne pepper

½ tsp fennel seed

½ tsp coriander seed

1 tsp grated fresh turmeric

Bowl of Cabbage Carrots Beets for Fermentation

Directions

Combine all ingredients mix thoroughly and press firmly into a ½ Gallon Mason Jar

Add weight to keep ingredients under liquid and cover the jar loosely to let CO2 escape. (Be careful about the CO2 buildup. You don’t want the whole thing exploding on you.)

Fermentation will take 2 – 6 weeks depending on room temperature and desired taste. I usually start eating at 4 weeks.
Enjoy!
