In addition to ovulation boosting foods and herbs and of course the tools of the Fertile Heart toolkit there is one more readily available resource that can help with ovulation related challenges such as –
anovulatory cycles, irregular cycles,
short luteal phase, low levels of cervical fluid & more
The readily available resource I’m talking about is light. We already know how important it is to get adequate natural light and sunlight to insure the production of vitamin D, which is really not a vitamin but a hormone.
But as important as it is to get plenty of light during the day, for healthy ovulation and hormone balance it’s essential to make sure you’re sleeping in a room that is as dark as possible. That means getting rid of illuminated alarm clocks, or any other artificial or natural sources of light.
That said, learning from the wisdom of indigenous societies here is an experiment that has helped women in my practice who have wrestled with a wide range of ovulation related challenges.
Women’s menstrual cycles have traditionally followed the cycles of the moon. Some indigenous cultures speak of a woman’s period as “moon time.”
So our experiment inspired by research done in the 1960’s aims to imitate the cycles of the moon to either jump start ovulation if you have not been ovulating or regulate your cycles, whether that means extending your luteal phase or if your cycles are very long, you might notice it settling into a more regular rhythm.
Boost Ovulation – Moon Time
Here is what you do if you are menstruating and looking to boost your ovulation or balance your cycles
On days 1 to 13 you sleep in total darkness. Be sure to cover all light emitting appliances.
Then for 3 nights you sleep with the a 45 watt bulb light on all night
If you are anovulatory (you haven’t been menstruating or ovulating) you can follow the moon cycle.
That means during the 3 days of full moon you’ll sleep with the light on and for the rest of month in total darkness.
This is certainly a worthwhile experiment, as long as you don’t treat as your one quick fix to rely on but use it in as one part of your unique fertility boosting practice.
You may want to combine this experiment with the “Supporting Ovulation” and “Issues in Your Tissues” imagery in the Fertile Imagery 2 Audio Program. This page with Ovulation Boosting Foods can also be helpful.
